The Beat

An Important Update on the Development of Dawngate

From Matt Bromberg, Group General Manager

Today, I have the unenviable task of announcing that we’ve decided to stop development of Dawngate.

I know this is disappointing news for our community, which has been so supportive and loyal.  To all of you who have graciously given us your time and valuable feedback during our beta period, we'd first like to thank you.

Whenever we begin a game project, we do so with great hopes and expectations.  In this case, we chose to enter a new genre for EA in MOBA, one that we knew going in was extremely competitive. We built a game in Dawngate that wasn’t simply a clone of existing MOBAs, but one that truly pushed the genre forward in many ways. Dawngate has been in beta for almost 18 months, including a full open beta for the past six months. Through that time, we’ve taken a lot of feedback from players and delivered lots of new features and innovations.  And although the game has grown, we’re not seeing the progress we’d hoped for.   This isn’t the outcome we wanted, but beta testing is about learning and improving, and ultimately, about making difficult decisions about how to proceed.

As for the incredibly talented team of designers, producers, engineers, and artists who have put so much creative energy into Dawngate:  The game was truly a labor of love, and it shows.  We’ve got nothing but gratitude for their hard work, and pride about what’s been accomplished.

As a part of the process of closing down Dawngate, we’ll continue to operate the game for the next 90 days.  All players will be entitled to a full refund of any money spent during the beta.  For most players, we’ll process those refunds within the next 10 days.   If we don’t have current payment information on file for you, we’ll need to reach out first before initiating the refund.  If you have any questions, you can reach us at help.ea.com.

On behalf of the entire team at Waystone Games and EA, I want once again to thank all our players for being part of this journey. Your straight-up feedback and the friendly reception we received all over the world at events was extremely encouraging and important to us. We appreciate it.

This makes a lot of people sadder than you would believe. I'm sure the decision is final, but I wish EA would reconsider.

Yeah I start playing this game last week and I got addicted I dunno. This game have so much potencial, the voice acting is so good I feel like the characters are alive, it's better than LoL. The graphics are so gorgeous. The gameplay is so fun. Like I said I only start playing Dawngate last week and it's like I found my Moba. I've been playing LoL for 3 years and I was willing to stop playing it to be more active in DG comunity . And hell yeah Im feeling devastated.

In my opinion 18 months its not the required time to shut down a moba that's still on open beta and had no advertisement. Im praying for a solution... god that game has some unique characters...

Good day, this news roughing me, I'm a player gives 1 and 2 for more than 10 years ago. honestly I think his game is excellent and I spend a lot of time, as you can see my English is basic, I'm from Uruguay is a small country and the only game that could move gives me a been dawngate, I think it is not a correct decision close sincerely believe that you can overcome all current MOBA. I think he needs more time and publicity. I ask as a simple REPRESENTATIVE of this community to make an effort to

I am quite grateful we were given a 90 day warning and will be getting a refund, but in all honesty...I feel like this game really had potential. More advertising and more than just 6 months of open community beta probably could have helped, but this was the game I went to after the horrible community in LoL. I love the lore, the Shapers, the gameplay, and the community. All of these were great, appealing elements. Thank you Dawngate and Waystone. I'll always remember you guys.

18 months isn't long enough to determine if a game is successful or not. I've been playing this for the entire 18 months that this is in beta and i've seen this community and game grow in fantastic ways. Every time there was a big event that this game was at, PAX and E3, there was always a huge influx of new players excited to play. Continue to push this game at events such as these and watch if continue to succeed.

EA seriously dont get what level of game they had or the market they were trying to fill in it DawnGate is the best moba out there for simply making every player on the team actually helpful in the game and not be the ward ***** support or the no farm support

You obviously don't make games for the love of it. So I won't buy any more EA titles.

Why does EA have to ruin so many gamers hearts so often, it makes me so sad, seeing a good game being closed down, when it only had so little time to develop, it had so much potential in my eyes. Damn you EA... DAMN YOU! and your mobile games! (Hope they reconsider the decision) (plz ea... plzzzz)

I've told several friends that this is the one active MOBA that not only holds a candle to DOTA 2 and League of Legends but surpasses those games in many ways. I had been looking forward to the years to come, watching Dawngate duke it out with the competitors and rise above because simply put; this is the best the MOBA genre has to offer and the foothold in the market is there. Sieze the day! Let Dawngate reach it's place at the top where it belongs! Or throw away the golden ticket....
