Update on a Few of Our Free-to-Play PC Games

We’re constantly looking at how players are engaging with our games – listening, learning and shaping our experiences based on that feedback – and wanted to bring some news today regarding a few of our older PC free-to-play games.

Recently, we’ve been looking closely at the types of PC free-to-play experiences that players are engaging with across the world.  For instance, Star Wars®: The Old Republic™ is a game that continues to have a very enthusiastic and growing player community, and we have plans to introduce more new story-driven game updates to our Star Wars: The Old Republic players this year.

On the other hand, some of our other PC free-to-play games are not as popular as they once were. So we find ourselves announcing the tough decision today that we are stopping development and winding down support for four PC free-to-play titles: Battlefield Heroes™, Battlefield™ Play4Free, Need for Speed™ World and FIFA World. These games will be live for another 90 days, after which they will go offline.

In more than five years since most of these titles launched, how we play games has changed dramatically.  These were pioneering experiences, and we’re humbled that, over the years, so many of you joined us to enjoy the games and the community.   While we say farewell to these free-to-play titles in the next few months, we are always exploring new concepts and ways to bring great games to more players around the world.

Yeah it's sad, however there have been lots of rumors about a new Need for Speed online game called Need for Speed Underground 3 Online (or U3O), that is going to be released this year or next year :D Hopefully someone official at EA can confirm this :D

NFSW is still very popular compare to BF Heroes or Fifa World.............. And no Canyons added in the game, it could bring a lot of new people, you re the most lazy guys i've seen. Even with 60$ DLC for Canyons you would not make it

What a strange response! "not as popular as they once were so we are stopping development and winding down support" It is most surely the other way around in the case of need for speed world. Because development was stopped a number of years ago, the game has become less popular.. I just wish the original development team, Blackbox, had got the game sorted before the job cuts ruined them.

Need for Speed: World isn't popular? Are you going crazy? New players are coming all the time, ever since I started playing I've been seeing newcomers....ALL the time. Plus the game is not outdated at all, and you definitely should reconsider. Loads of players stopped playing when QuickLime got shut down because of letting cheaters rule the streets. And now when the game got at least cheater protection you're deciding to cut it off? Check your brains I'd say, with no offence meant.

NFSW is way more popular than any other f2p EA game. And only if you brought at least 7-10 people who would develop it, it would get bigger than any other MMO you're having active now. I've been around in both good and very bad times and this what's going on now is better than ever. Cheaters finally getting what they deserved, the team that holds the game changes IGC rotations, makes SB stuff come back and keeps car sales active. And now when the game got a spark of life...END? no..pls don't...

You'd better shut down Origin service too, as its not used that much either, unless you force everyone to use it like you are trying to do each nice game (and there are very few the last couple of years) you release.

need for speed is still a good game, nothing more developmental Put him some things , but many players debastados to close the game would feel , give and give us an opportunity to see that the game gives for more , just ponganse to work and play will be a success just for the simple fact of being need for speed :)

Need for speed world is still popular , people are still playing it and today is the first time i hear about Star Wars ... if you would put more work and less speed boost offers in nfs world people would still play it like they did 5 years ago.

About my thought of the four games: BFP4F: Cash grab that aimed to use the nostalgia of BF2 to go for cash. At least in my perspective. BFH: Was charming and such and really filled a nieche not populated by other games. Didn't follow this game much but well... The time i played it WAS fun! Part 2 of my rant following next!

FW: It was fun for the time I played. Problem was that the damn suits didn't seem to get that people also need contracts for gold players and tried to bar those behind paywalls. It sadened to hear that such a new game is already considered "not as successfull as it once were". It was buggy, yes. However it would have worked if your dev team would actually TEST THE GAME THEMSELVES to see the balance and stability issues BEFORE rolling out a game or balance breaking decision. Part 3 next!
